PLACE OF GRACE AT A GLANCE
Founded in 2011, the Place of Grace has been working hard to help individuals in Bangkok trapped in poverty by running children’s clubs, youth groups, a food bank, and a learning centre. By working closely with the local community leaders, our work in the Mahathai slum communities is done in a supportive, sustainable way. Our mission is to see lives transformed by the grace of God and we strive to inspire and improve the lives of those who need assistance and who attend the groups.
WHAT WE DO
AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS
Caring for the individual, providing a safe place to play, care, and support.
Daily after school clubs for those living in the surrounding slum communities, where each is known by name, and cared for in practical and emotional ways. Playing games, doing crafts, eating fruit, chatting with staff, and generally having fun means that whatever struggles the children are facing, they can just be children for a few hours and have fun. We provide a safe environment for the children to have fun and feel heard.
FOOD BANK
Feeding the hungry, restoring dignity and giving a helping hand to the vulnerable.
The Place of Grace foodbank provides emergency food to those living in the slum communities, where surviving means living on a low wage, often with a temporary job; helping those who fall ill or on bad times is the mission of the foodbank, and listening to their stories to show we care. All food is donated by local groups and churches and is distributed via a fair system adapted from foodbanks in the UK, and the help makes a tangible difference to those facing emergency situations every week.
LEARNING CENTRE
Providing a top quality education and opportunities for children in the Mahathai slums.
A new initiative in 2020, the Place of Grace Learning Centre provides quality, internationally registered and recognised full-time education in English for children in the slum communities. The Learning Centre not only provides education to vastly increase the opportunities for a good job in the future but also a supportive and safe environment in which to learn.
DISCIPLESHIP GROUPS
Learning about how precious each one is to God.
For those interested in developing deeper relationships with God, bible study groups are held at various times, where young people spend time together with mentors and learning more about God.
YOUTH GROUP
A safe place to come and be.
A safe place for the local teenagers to hang out, play games, relax and talk about life issues. Staff are readily available for advice, showing each individual teenager that they matter.
ENGLISH CLASSES
A helping hand
We offer weekly English language classes to the local children and youth. Knowing some English greatly aids in better job opportunities in the community.
